Legal Counsel – General Counsel Office

About the role

The Legal Counsel will serve as the strategic business partner and office manager to the General Counsel, overseeing governance, board coordination, legal operations and stakeholder management. This senior position ensures seamless execution of board‑level priorities while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the General Counsel to drive strategic priorities, develop annual operating plans and monitor departmental initiatives.
• Coordinate Board, Board Committee and Executive Committee deliverables, preparing dashboards, MIS reports, presentations and briefing notes for senior leadership.
• Establish and maintain standardized operating procedures for the Office of the General Counsel, ensuring compliance with internal policies, RBI guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Manage document management, approval workflows, legal record keeping and drive paper‑less initiatives through digital approvals and electronic repositories.
• Facilitate cross‑functional legal projects with Business, Risk, Compliance and Product teams, supporting the onboarding of external law firms and legal consultants.
• Support transformation initiatives, including digitisation, process automation and implementation of new legal technologies.
• Prepare monthly performance monitoring reports and maintain confidentiality of all legal documentation and regulatory correspondence.

Required profile

• Proven experience in legal risk management and governance within a corporate environment.
• Strong understanding of RBI guidelines, regulatory governance and internal control frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to manage board and committee coordination, prepare executive‑level reports and presentations.
• Excellent organizational skills with a focus on confidentiality and operational excellence.
• Experience in driving process automation, digitisation and legal technology adoption.
