Lead Software Engineer – Agentic Workflows & APIs

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a hands‑on Tech Lead to drive platform modernization, API transformation, cloud‑native engineering, and AI‑enabled capabilities. The role combines deep technical expertise with mentorship and strategic influence across multiple initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of complex engineering initiatives and define architecture, patterns, and roadmaps.
• Design and develop enterprise‑grade backend services, high‑availability microservices, and secure RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies.
• Implement agent‑driven workflows, integrate AI capabilities, and establish responsible AI practices.
• Build and deploy solutions on AWS, enable Infrastructure as Code, and create reusable platform frameworks.
• Champion observability, reliability, and performance engineering; lead incident management and continuous improvement.
• Mentor engineers, support hiring, and foster a culture of innovation and accountability.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven record of delivering enterprise‑scale solutions.
• Strong background in cloud‑native, distributed systems and API design.
• Experience leading cross‑functional teams and mentoring engineers.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
