General Duty Medical Officer

About the role

The General Duty Medical Officer is a full‑time, on‑site position at Meitra Hospital in Kozhikode. You will provide comprehensive medical care to both inpatients and outpatients, following established clinical protocols and collaborating closely with specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of clinical conditions for inpatients and outpatients.
• Monitor patient progress, update medical records, and coordinate investigations.
• Participate in ward rounds and support emergency and critical‑care teams as needed.
• Assist in pre‑operative assessment, post‑operative monitoring, and coordination with surgical teams.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and promote adherence to clinical guidelines.
• Contribute to quality‑improvement, infection‑control, and safety initiatives.

Required profile

• MBBS degree with registration and prior hospital or acute‑care experience (preferably tertiary/quaternary).
• Demonstrated patient‑care skills emphasizing safety, empathy, communication, and continuity.
• Ability to work shifts, including weekends and nights, in high‑acuity environments.
• Experience collaborating with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and escalating care when required.
• Capability to train and guide junior staff, interns, and nursing teams.
