About the role
The Electrical Specialist ensures safety, reliability and compliance of all electrical and electronic systems on terminal equipment, specifically RTG, RMGC and STS cranes. Acting as the terminal’s electrical engineering focal point, the role provides technical leadership, governance and supports continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Enforce HSSE policies, LOTO procedures and electrical safety standards across all activities.
- Act as subject‑matter expert for RTG, RMGC and STS crane electrical and automation systems.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability.
- Troubleshoot complex failures in drives, PLCs, networks and crane control systems.
- Lead root‑cause analysis for critical failures and implement permanent solutions.
- Manage electrical modifications, upgrades and retrofit projects, both in‑house and outsourced.
- Conduct audits, inspections and technical surveys; provide input for procurement and vendor evaluations.
- Support medium‑ to long‑term asset renewal planning and global electrical maintenance strategy.
- Oversee day‑to‑day activities of contractors and internal teams, ensuring quality, safety and compliance.
- Organise electrical safety training and technical upskilling for staff.
Required profile
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (mandatory).
- Minimum 10 years hands‑on experience with container terminal equipment (RTG, RMG, STS).
- Proven experience in asset maintenance, reliability improvement and breakdown management in 24/7 environments.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑influence skills.
- Fluent written and verbal English; comfortable in multicultural settings.
Required skills
- Expertise in RTG, RMG and STS crane electrical & automation systems.
- Advanced troubleshooting of AC/DC drives, VFDs, servo drives, soft starters.
- PLC programming and maintenance (Siemens S7, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider).
- HMI, SCADA and crane control system knowledge.
- Industrial communication networks: Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, CANbus.
- Crane safety systems: anti‑collision, anti‑sway, overload, interlocks, limit switches.
- Condition monitoring techniques: thermal imaging, insulation resistance testing, earth resistance testing.
- Understanding of motors, slip rings, electrical panels and power distribution.
- Development and execution of preventive maintenance strategies for crane electrical systems.
- Documentation management (schematics, PLC backups, manuals, failure history).
- ERP/CMMS experience (SAP or equivalent) with strong data discipline.
