Director of Software Engineering (AI‑native)

About the role

The Director of Software Engineering leads the Workplace engineering pillar within ServiceNow’s CRM & Industry Workflows organization. This AI‑native role is responsible for shaping and delivering the Workplace Service Delivery roadmap while building an engineering organization that operates with autonomous AI agents as a core part of the development process.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow an AI‑native engineering organization, managing 2‑3 engineering managers and shifting metrics from speed to judgment (specification quality, architectural soundness, verification rigor).
• Partner with product, UX and platform teams to define, own, and execute a multi‑year Workplace Service Delivery roadmap, translating ambiguous goals into precise, testable specifications.
• Design and oversee verification and guard‑rail harnesses (automated tests, evaluation suites, CI/CD quality gates) that ensure trustworthy agent‑generated output at scale.
• Champion enterprise‑grade quality, security, and delivery standards for AI‑integrated systems, including prompt‑injection defence and data‑leakage controls.
• Mentor engineering managers and senior engineers, building the next generation of leaders fluent in AI‑native practices.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience designing and shipping scalable enterprise software, with significant technical leadership roles.
• Proven track record building and leading teams that deliver production systems using AI‑native methods (agentic coding tools, autonomous workflows).
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence product vision while collaborating with senior stakeholders and customers.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with AI agentic coding tools and autonomous agent architectures.
• Design and operation of verification harnesses such as property‑based testing, CI/CD pipelines, and evaluation suites.
• Context engineering using vector databases, long‑term memory frameworks, and instruction‑file management.
• Security controls for AI‑integrated systems (prompt‑injection defence, data‑leakage mitigation).
