Design Engineer I – Reciprocating Compressors

About the role

The Design Engineer – Reciprocating Compressors will lead the mechanical design, analysis, and engineering support for Chart Industries' reciprocating compressor product line. You will create reliable, manufacturable, and cost‑effective components that meet customer specifications and global standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop reciprocating compressors and related parts, including cylinders, pistons, crankshaft‑driven systems, valves, and lubrication systems.
• Prepare detailed mechanical designs, calculations, and drawings in line with customer requirements and internal standards.
• Perform design calculations for strength, fatigue, pressure containment, vibration, and thermal effects.
• Select appropriate materials and components based on pressure, temperature, gas composition, and duty cycle.
• Ensure compliance with international codes such as API 618, ASME, ISO, and PED.
• Support documentation for quality, inspection, and certification.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams to guarantee design feasibility and timely execution.
• Provide engineering assistance during fabrication, assembly, testing, and Mechanical Run Tests (MRT).
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions for field issues.

Required profile

• Experience in mechanical design and analysis of reciprocating compressors or similar rotating equipment.
• Familiarity with API 618, ASME, ISO, and PED standards.
• Ability to conduct strength, fatigue, pressure, vibration, and thermal calculations.
• Strong collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams (manufacturing, sourcing, quality, projects).
• Proficiency in preparing engineering documentation, BOMs, and revision control.
