Design Engineer I

About the role

Chart Industries is seeking a Design Engineer I to join its Chennai engineering team. The role focuses on creating and validating 3‑D models for cryogenic and rotating equipment, ensuring designs meet customer specifications and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, check and validate General Arrangement drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
• Interpret customer requirements, select appropriate fans and rotating equipment.
• Generate 3‑D models, extract manufacturing drawings and create technical documentation.
• Extract Bill of Materials from drawings and upload to the ERP system.
• Produce specification documents for purchased items and support the manufacturing team in troubleshooting non‑conformities.
• Optimize designs for cost reduction and participate in continuous improvement and new product development.
• Interpret FEA and CFD analysis results.
• Lead a small team of engineers.

Required profile

• B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8–12 years of relevant experience in mechanical design.
• Experience with rotating equipment selection and familiarity with steel, cement, power tunnel or railway processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and independently.
