Data Engineer

About the role

OpenGov is looking for a high‑ownership, solution‑oriented Data Engineer to join its rapidly growing Data Platform team. You will work hands‑on with dbt to model and transform data that powers decision‑making across the organization, taking end‑to‑end ownership of version‑controlled, tested and deployed pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with business stakeholders across Analytics, Operations, GTM, and G&A to gather requirements and translate problem statements into clear data specifications.
• Design and build dimensional and analytical data models in Snowflake using dbt, following best practices for modular layering, documentation, and testing.
• Own scheduling and orchestration of dbt jobs, ensuring reliability, observability, and SLA adherence, and manage CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions.
• Implement data quality checks and freshness tests within dbt, and perform exploratory analysis to validate source data and surface anomalies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
• 4–6 years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or a similar role.
• Hands‑on experience building and maintaining dbt projects in a data warehouse, preferably Snowflake.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred) and working with core AWS services such as S3, Lambda, and IAM.
