Continental Commis Chef

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Continental Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at Cafelato in Thrissur. This full‑time, on‑site position supports senior chefs in preparing and cooking continental dishes while maintaining our high standards of quality and presentation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior chefs with the preparation and cooking of continental menu items following standardized recipes.
• Organize and portion ingredients, set up mise en place, and ensure all workstations are clean and orderly.
• Maintain kitchen hygiene, adhere to food safety protocols, and handle food safely at all times.
• Collaborate with the kitchen crew to manage inventory, restock supplies, and ensure timely service of dishes.
• Support plating and presentation to meet the restaurant’s visual standards.

Required profile

• Strong food preparation and basic cooking skills with a good understanding of continental cuisine.
• Solid culinary fundamentals, including knife handling, portioning, and plating techniques.
• Commitment to hygiene and food safety practices in line with industry standards.
• Effective communication skills to work smoothly within a multicultural kitchen team.
• Previous experience as a commis chef or in a similar kitchen‑assistant role is preferred.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Professional culinary training or certification is an advantage.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and readiness to follow standard operating procedures.
