Cashier – Branch Banking

About the role

The Cashier role is responsible for executing all cash‑related transactions and operations at a branch, ensuring compliance with internal and external banking guidelines. The position supports the smooth functioning of the branch by handling cash, maintaining registers, and providing excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and other instruments within authorized limits.
• Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and collect cash for deposits, updating the system accordingly.
• Maintain inward/outward registers, petty‑cash register, assets register and submit requisition forms to the regional head office.
• Perform daily cash tally, reconcile transactions, and prepare the end‑of‑day branch report.
• Jointly manage the branch vault and cash‑handling function with the Operations Officer.
• Interact with customers during deposits and withdrawals, identify cross‑sell opportunities and inform them about new products and services.
• Provide courteous customer service, address queries, and educate customers on alternate channels for transactions.
• Count and verify cash at the start and end of each day, ensuring safe custody of cash, keys and valuables.
• Ensure adherence to turnaround times, regulatory compliance, and bank policies for all cashier operations.
• Validate customer authenticity during cash withdrawals and verify loan repayment transactions.
• Update passbooks and process cash bundles for currency chest deposits.

• Experience in cash handling within a banking environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate registers and reconciliations.
• Good communication skills for interacting with customers and branch staff.
