Applied Science Manager – Advertising Trust

About the role

Amazon Ads is seeking an Applied Science Manager to lead the Advertising Trust science team. The role focuses on building next‑generation machine‑learning systems that automate content‑moderation decisions across Amazon’s global advertising ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of applied scientists working on multimodal ML, large‑scale retrieval, and generative AI solutions.
• Define and execute the science roadmap for high‑impact automation programs.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of ML models, from problem formulation through offline experiments, online A/B testing, and production deployment.
• Mentor, hire, and develop scientists, fostering a culture of rigorous review and publication.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to translate research into measurable automation improvements.
• Communicate strategy and results to senior leadership via narratives and technical deep‑dives.

Required profile

• 8+ years of applied research experience.
• 4+ years of experience managing scientists or machine‑learning engineers, leading teams of 5‑15 members.
• Proven track record delivering production ML systems at Internet scale.
• Experience with content‑moderation, trust & safety, or policy‑enforcement systems is a plus.
• Publications in top‑tier ML/AI venues (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, KDD, ACL, AAAI) are preferred.

Required skills

• Multimodal machine learning (vision‑language models, video understanding).
• Large‑scale retrieval systems (embedding‑based similarity, deduplication).
• Generative AI techniques (LLM‑based policy reasoning, knowledge distillation, agentic architectures, reinforcement learning).
• LLM fine‑tuning, RLHF, and prompt engineering.
