Applied Science Manager, Advertising Trust

About the role

Amazon Ads is looking for an Applied Science Manager to lead the Advertising Trust Science team. You will shape the scientific roadmap for large‑scale content moderation, combining multimodal understanding, retrieval‑first classification, and LLM‑based reasoning to protect customers across global ad marketplaces.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of 5‑15 applied scientists working on vision‑language models, video understanding, large‑scale retrieval, and generative AI.
• Define and execute the science strategy for ads trust, from problem formulation to offline experiments, online A/B tests, and production deployment.
• Drive measurable automation improvements that are reported to senior leadership.
• Hire, mentor, and develop scientists, fostering a publication‑rich culture.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to translate research into production systems.
• Communicate roadmap, results, and technical deep‑dives to senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• 8+ years of applied research experience.
• 4+ years of experience managing scientists or ML engineers, leading teams of 5‑15 members.
• Proven track record delivering production ML systems at Internet scale with measurable business impact.
• Experience in content moderation, trust & safety, or policy enforcement is a plus.
• Publications in top‑tier ML/AI venues (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, KDD, ACL, AAAI) are preferred.

• Multimodal machine learning (vision‑language models, video understanding).
• Large‑scale retrieval systems (embedding‑based similarity, deduplication).
• Generative AI techniques (LLM‑based policy reasoning, knowledge distillation, agentic architectures, reinforcement learning).
• LLM fine‑tuning, RLHF, prompt engineering.
