Applied Science Manager, Advertising Trust

About the role

Amazon Ads is looking for an Applied Science Manager to lead the Advertising Trust Science team. You will drive the science roadmap for large‑scale content moderation, combining multimodal understanding, retrieval‑first classification, and LLM‑based reasoning to protect customers across global ad marketplaces.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of 5‑15 applied scientists working on vision‑language models, video understanding, embedding‑based retrieval, and generative AI.
• Define and own the end‑to‑end delivery of ML solutions, from problem formulation and offline experiments to online A/B testing and production deployment.
• Increase automation and defect‑reduction metrics reported to senior leadership.
• Hire, mentor, and develop scientists, fostering a publication‑driven culture.
• Partner with engineering, product, and operations to translate scientific advances into measurable automation improvements.

Required profile

• 8+ years of applied research experience.
• 4+ years of experience managing scientists or machine‑learning engineers.
• Proven track record delivering production ML systems at Internet scale.
• Experience with content‑moderation, trust & safety, or policy‑enforcement systems is a plus.

Required skills

• Multimodal deep learning (vision‑language models, video understanding).
• Large‑scale retrieval systems (embedding similarity, deduplication).
• Generative AI techniques (LLM fine‑tuning, knowledge distillation, reinforcement learning, prompt engineering).
• Experience building production ML pipelines.
