Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Mental Health

About the role

This position joins the mental health pharmacy team at Borders General Hospital Campus, supporting both inpatient and community patients as part of a multidisciplinary psychiatry team. The role focuses on leading and developing specialist clinical pharmacy services while contributing to regional and national mental health programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and expand clinical pharmacy services for mental health patients across hospital and community settings.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to ensure safe, patient‑centred medication management.
• Promote medicines governance, patient safety initiatives, and the adoption of electronic medicines management systems.
• Support the development of clinical technicians and pharmacy support staff.
• Contribute to regional and national mental health pharmacy programmes and service improvement projects.

Required profile

• Qualified pharmacist with a solid foundation of general clinical knowledge.
• Post‑foundation RPS accreditation (or equivalent) and ideally an Independent Prescriber qualification.
• Reflective practitioner with strong therapeutic knowledge and practical skills in psychiatry.
• Excellent teamwork, interpersonal abilities, and capacity to provide professional leadership.

Required skills

• Clinical pharmacy expertise in mental health/psychiatry.
• Knowledge of medicines governance and patient safety processes.
• Experience with electronic medicines management systems.
