Lead Engineer - Power System Studies

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Engineer – Power System Studies to join AECOM’s Transmission & Distribution team in Bengaluru. The role involves leading steady‑state, dynamic and transient power system studies for global energy projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform, analyse and review power system studies (load flow, short‑circuit, motor starting, relay coordination, arc‑flash, harmonic, unbalance, earthing, cable ampacity, insulation coordination) and produce detailed reports.
• Establish technical standards, procedures and best practices for power system studies and drive innovation using AI, digital tools and script automation.
• Provide expertise from concept to detailed design for transmission and distribution projects, including substations, generating stations, data centres, BESS and renewables.
• Support bids and proposals, represent AECOM in client meetings and ensure compliance with design management processes and codes such as IEEE, IEC and National Grid.
• Mentor junior team members, conduct quality‑control reviews and contribute to engineering budgets and schedules.

Required profile

• 8‑12 years of experience in power system studies for EHV grid substations.
• Master’s degree in Power Systems or Energy Systems.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) licence or equivalent.
• Proven experience with grid‑connection studies using tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, DigSilent Power Factory or CDEGS.
• Strong communication skills in English.

• Standards: IEEE, IEC, National Grid, ANSI, Australian, NEC, BS.
• AI‑driven modelling, scripting and automation for dynamic and transient studies.
• Design of substations, transmission lines, earthing systems and cable ampacity.
