Senior C++ Software Engineer – Semiconductor CAD

About the role

As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials you will dive deep into groundbreaking technologies such as machine learning and AI to create novel software solutions for high‑value semiconductor and display challenges. You will design, prototype, develop, and debug high‑performance applications for semiconductor CAD tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain complex C++ software for semiconductor CAD applications.
• Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into scalable architecture and detailed design specifications.
• Develop and optimise algorithms for layout data processing and geometry operations on large hierarchical design databases.
• Own software features through the full lifecycle, including unit, integration, and regression testing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks and complex defects in data‑intensive workflows.

Required profile

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring junior engineers and driving technical projects.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently in an Agile environment.
• Customer‑focused mindset with a passion for technology and continuous learning.

Required skills

• Modern C++ (C++14/17/20) with 8‑15 years of development experience.
• Deep knowledge of OOP, STL, templates, smart pointers, and memory management.
• Expertise in data structures, algorithms, and computational geometry.
• Proficiency in multithreaded and concurrent programming.
• Understanding of software architecture principles and system integration on Windows/Linux.
• Experience with Git, debugging, profiling, and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with microservices, gRPC/REST APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
