Safety Officer – Port Logistics (Kolkata)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join our port logistics and container terminal operations in Kolkata. The role involves implementing and monitoring safety standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture across all terminal activities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures throughout terminal operations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, risk assessments and ensure compliance with port and workplace regulations.
• Supervise safety measures during cargo handling, container movement, loading/unloading, and equipment operations.
• Monitor proper use of PPE and safety equipment by employees and contractors.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near‑misses, prepare reports and recommend preventive actions.
• Maintain safety records, logs and compliance documentation.
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks and emergency response training.
• Coordinate emergency response drills, fire safety system maintenance and crisis management planning.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in container terminal or port logistics safety operations.
• Government‑approved safety certification (mandatory); industrial safety, fire safety or HSE certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of industrial and port safety standards and HSE audit procedures.
• Excellent communication, reporting and documentation skills.
• Ability to handle emergency situations, conduct root‑cause analysis and make decisive safety decisions.
• Proven observation, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
