Network Operations Engineer II

About the role

DigitalOcean is seeking a Network Operations Engineer II to join its Network Engineering team. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining large‑scale network infrastructure that powers the company’s IaaS platform.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on operational support for deploying new network infrastructure and managing existing sites worldwide.
• Assist customers experiencing network‑related issues.
• Respond to alerts, troubleshoot incidents, and participate in the on‑call rotation.
• Collaborate with networking‑focused software engineers to develop and maintain automation and monitoring platforms.
• Develop and maintain operational playbooks and processes.

Required profile

• BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent, or relevant Juniper/Arista/Cisco certifications.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go or Python.
• Experience with Linux and basic shell scripting.
• Hands‑on experience with Juniper hardware (MX, QFX, EX, SRX) and the Junos OS.
• Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack.
• Experience with network device configuration automation frameworks (Salt preferred).
• Good knowledge of Git and multi‑branch development workflows.
• Experience with layer‑2/3 protocols (BGP, OSPF, VRRP, IS‑IS, LACP, MC‑LAG).
• Experience with MPLS, including BGP‑LU (RSVP‑TE a plus).
