Fire & Safety Officer

About the role

The Fire & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of fire protection systems, smoke ventilation, and emergency response procedures within the building. This role reports to the Manager – Fire & Safety / Building Manager and works closely with security guards and maintenance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all fire pumps operate in auto mode, are leak‑free, and maintain proper pressure gauge readings.
• Monitor diesel pump oil levels, engine battery condition, and keep pump‑room valves open.
• Maintain diesel tank levels above 80 % and verify beacon lights are functional.
• Check that daily checklists are completed and signed by the shift fire‑man.
• Keep first‑aid kits and fire‑fighting equipment serviceable 24/7, and monitor fire water tank levels.
• Operate and monitor smoke ventilation, pressurisation, fresh‑air, and normal exhaust fans in auto mode.
• Conduct building evacuation drills and implement emergency response plans.
• Oversee traffic flow, guard duties, and provide fire‑safety briefings to security personnel.
• Inspect hot‑work areas for compliance with safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in fire safety operations or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of fire pump systems, diesel engines, and ventilation equipment.
• Ability to conduct evacuation drills and coordinate emergency responses.
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate logs and checklists.
• Effective communication skills for training guards and interacting with building occupants.
