Director, India Legal – Litigation, Regulatory, Labor & Employment

About the role

The Director, India Legal will provide strategic legal support to the Head of Legal, India, guiding business lines and partners on employment, labour, regulatory and litigation matters. This senior position requires deep expertise in Indian employment law and the ability to manage complex legal challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive legal advice on employment, labour, regulatory, civil and criminal issues.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts.
• Lead employee‑relations matters, investigations, and employment litigation, including settlement negotiations.
• Oversee restructuring, redundancy and separation arrangements.
• Respond to regulatory and law‑enforcement inquiries, summonses and investigations.
• Develop and deliver formal training sessions on legal standards, policies and industry issues.
• Conduct legal research, risk assessments and craft solutions that balance stakeholder interests.
• Manage outside counsel on major deliverables and ensure compliance with privacy and confidentiality obligations.

Required profile

• Minimum 18 years post‑qualification experience in a top Indian law firm or multinational financial corporation.
• LL.B or equivalent accredited law degree.
• Proven track record in employment litigation, complex employee matters and legal investigations.
• Strong experience with restructuring, redundancies and managing external counsel.
• Ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice to senior business leaders.
