Clinical Nurse Specialist – Diabetes Service (Band 6)

About the role

This permanent part‑time position (22.5 hrs/week) is based at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow. As a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist you will join a forward‑thinking, multidisciplinary Diabetes team delivering specialised management, treatment and education for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain departmental policies, procedures, standards and protocols to ensure the highest level of patient care.
• Participate in clinical audit to assess and improve quality of care.
• Manage daily ward/department staff activities including induction, recruitment, appraisal, performance and absence management.
• Lead, motivate and retain the nursing team, supporting their educational needs.
• Support clinical practice placements for pre‑ and post‑registration students.
• Deliver a high‑quality, cost‑effective service with awareness of budgetary control.
• Identify and meet personal professional development and education needs.
• Apply research findings to practice to ensure evidence‑based care.

Required profile

• Live NMC UK PIN (registered on the NMC Register – Part 1 & 2).
• Significant post‑registration nursing experience.
• Proven managerial and clinical skills.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
