Associate Manager – 990 Tax for Not‑For‑Profit

About the role

Withum’s Tax Services Group is seeking an Associate Manager to lead the preparation and review of Form 990 and related schedules for not‑for‑profit organizations. The role combines technical tax expertise with client‑focused communication to ensure accurate, timely filing and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review small, medium, and complex Form 990 and 990‑T returns.
• Manage non‑profit organization work schedules and understand the structure of Form 990 and its 16 schedules.
• Monitor filing deadlines, extensions, and penalties, and assess impacts of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
• Oversee end‑to‑end tax compliance, ensuring tasks are completed accurately within defined timeframes.
• Review audit financial statements (income statement, balance sheet) to identify missing items and gather necessary tax documentation.
• Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to clients and internal teams.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Form 990 filing requirements and associated schedules.
• Ability to analyze financial statements and identify tax‑relevant issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Required skills

• Expertise in preparing and reviewing Form 990 and 990‑T.
• Understanding of Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) calculations.
• Familiarity with tax implications of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
