Structural Detailer – Steel Joist Design

About the role

The Structural Detailer will be responsible for designing and detailing steel joist members, girders and decks in accordance with current SJI, CISC and AISC specifications. Working closely with project teams, you will ensure accurate layouts, support field repairs and contribute to project scheduling and bid preparation.

Key responsibilities

• Design individual joist members and welds following the latest SJI/CISC/AISC standards.
• Create steel joist, joist girders and steel deck designs using specialized software or hand calculations.
• Review and illustrate special loading conditions for joist layout purposes.
• Provide corrective measures for field repairs and support on‑site teams.
• Supply input to the Project Coordinator for scheduling, priority setting and bid proposals.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective communication with co‑workers and supervisors.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Diploma in Civil, Mechanical or Architectural engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in steel detailing or structural design.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Willingness to travel abroad when required.
• Strong English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Revit Structure (preferred).
• Knowledge of SJI, CISC and AISC specifications.
• Experience in steel joist and deck design.
• Ability to perform hand calculations for structural members.
