Staff Software Engineer – Full Stack (Frontend Heavy)

About the role

AlphaSense is seeking a hands‑on Staff Software Engineer focused on full‑stack development with a frontend emphasis. You will help build scalable, performant, and reliable systems that power the AlphaSense platform, shaping architecture, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement high‑quality, performant software across backend and frontend.
• Own technical architecture and reliability of backend services and frontend micro‑apps.
• Lead design discussions, clarify requirements, and deliver maintainable solutions.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of full‑stack projects, from APIs (Python/Java) to UI integration.
• Apply DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud‑native best practices to improve delivery efficiency.
• Mentor and coach engineers, raising the technical bar across the team.
• Collaborate with globally distributed, cross‑functional teams.
• Integrate intelligent features using LLMs, agents, and AI frameworks where they add user value.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of software development experience building scalable, high‑performing applications.
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, multithreading, distributed systems).
• Proven ability to lead technically within distributed, cross‑functional teams.
• Experience with on‑call ownership, incident triage, and service reliability.

Required skills

• JavaScript, React, TypeScript, GraphQL.
• Backend languages/frameworks such as Node.js, Java, Python.
• SQL/NoSQL databases: DynamoDB, MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Solr, Vespa, Lucene.
• Cloud platforms: AWS or GCP.
• Containerization and orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker, Helm.
• Observability tools for monitoring, logging, and tracing.
• CI/CD and DevOps best practices.
• AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot) – a strong plus.
