Staff Software Engineer - AI

About the role

DigitalOcean is building a powerful inference cloud for Agentic AI. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Feedback Systems team you will lead the design of massive‑scale infrastructure that simulates, tests and evaluates AI agents in multi‑turn, multi‑agent scenarios.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and implement end‑to‑end multi‑agent simulation environments that handle dynamic tool integration and complex workflows.
• Design ML pipelines to extract realistic user personas and simulation goals from historical telemetry.
• Build “what‑if” evaluation frameworks that benchmark alternative agent configurations against defined success criteria.
• Define robust API contracts and system boundaries linking telemetry data, asynchronous engines and secure execution environments.
• Mentor senior engineers, lead architectural reviews and establish best practices for observability and testing.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record at Staff, Principal or Architect level.
• Deep expertise in distributed, fault‑tolerant backend systems and stateful workflow orchestration.
• Hands‑on experience with AI/ML infrastructure, LLM orchestration and agentic frameworks.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to translate complex product requirements into scalable architecture.
