Staff Engineer (AVP) – Senior Technical Leader

About the role

As a Staff Engineer (AVP) within ANZ's Technology division, you will act as a senior individual contributor shaping the technical strategy for high‑impact platforms. You will work across multiple engineering squads, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, compliant and cost‑effective while elevating overall engineering standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and participate in design discussions that influence several squads.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership: write high‑quality code, review critical pull requests, and mentor senior engineers.
• Analyze system performance, reliability, scalability and security, identifying risks early.
• Partner with engineering leads to estimate, plan, and deliver long‑range initiatives across workstreams.
• Define and drive technical roadmaps, manage technical debt, and prioritize modernization projects.
• Host technical workshops, knowledge‑sharing sessions and design guilds to raise engineering maturity.
• Participate in incident reviews, root‑cause analysis and implement remediation actions.

Required profile

• Proven senior engineering experience with broad influence across multiple teams.
• Recognised technical authority capable of guiding solution architecture.
• Strong systems‑thinking and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and building capability.
