Software Engineer II – Backend Development

About the role

Join Mastercard's Operations & Technology Fraud Products team as a Software Engineer II focused on backend development. You will help build and enhance the Decision Management Platform, a high‑performance Java‑based system that processes billions of transactions each month to fight fraud and verify cardholder identity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver backend software solutions, collaborating closely with technical leads.
• Provide production support as a subject‑matter expert, resolving incidents and problem tickets.
• Plan, design, and implement technical solutions that meet business requirements while adhering to Mastercard standards.
• Lead day‑to‑day development and maintenance activities to meet SLAs and ensure high quality, cost‑effective delivery.
• Own the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, testing strategy, performance benchmarking, release rollout, and contingency planning.
• Participate in proof‑of‑concept initiatives and evaluate vendor technologies, frameworks, and methodologies.
• Conduct knowledge‑transfer sessions, mentor team members, and drive process improvements.

Required profile

• Strong experience in backend development using Java.
• Familiarity with high‑throughput, message‑oriented architectures.
• Ability to work independently and guide peers through all phases of the SDLC.
• Proven problem‑solving skills and a focus on delivering innovative, reliable solutions.
