Software Developer – Platform & Technology

About the role

Barclays is seeking a Software Developer to design, build and enhance applications that deliver platform and technology capabilities for its customers and internal teams. The role involves working within an agile environment, collaborating closely with product managers, designers and fellow engineers to translate business needs into reliable, high‑performing software.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high‑quality software solutions using industry‑standard languages, frameworks and tools.
• Write scalable, maintainable code and optimise performance.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to define requirements, design solutions and ensure seamless integration.
• Participate in code reviews, promote best practices and share knowledge within the team.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging technologies and contribute to internal tech communities.
• Apply secure coding standards and implement comprehensive unit tests.
• When applicable, lead or mentor a small team, allocate work and support professional development.

Required profile

• Strong technical background with deep knowledge of software development principles.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, cross‑functional team.
• Experience guiding or mentoring others is a plus.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, risk mitigation and adherence to regulatory standards.
