Senior System Engineer

About the role

Vultr is building its first Global Integrated Operations Command Center (GIOC) in Chennai and is looking for a Senior System Engineer to serve as the first line of response for its cloud systems estate. The role operates 24x7 in a rotational shift model, monitoring compute, storage, operating system and virtualization layers, and ensures rapid incident triage and resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor health signals across compute, storage, OS and virtualization platforms from a unified dashboard.
• Acknowledge alerts and incidents within defined first‑response SLA targets.
• Perform initial review of alerts, recent changes and CMDB data before acting.
• Classify incidents by severity and customer impact, routing them to the appropriate tower (Systems, Network, Security).
• Execute documented runbooks to resolve common issues and escalate complex problems to senior engineers.
• Maintain accurate, step‑by‑step documentation of all actions taken during an incident.
• Participate in a rotational schedule covering nights, weekends and holidays to provide follow‑the‑sun coverage.

Required profile

• Strong interest in cloud infrastructure operations and incident response.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, alert‑driven environment with rotating shifts.
• A desire to grow into deeper SRE, systems or platform engineering roles.

Required skills

• Experience with compute and storage systems in a cloud environment.
• Knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Unix) and virtualization technologies.
• Familiarity with configuration management databases (CMDB) and incident monitoring dashboards.
• Ability to follow and execute runbooks and document actions precisely.
