Senior Sub Editor

About the role

Jagran New Media is looking for a Senior Sub Editor to ensure the accuracy, clarity, and quality of Hindi news content on its digital platform. The role combines editorial judgment with fast‑paced digital publishing, requiring strong Hindi language skills and the ability to mentor junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Edit and proofread Hindi news articles, features, and other content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and factual accuracy.
• Write compelling headlines, sub‑headlines (decks), and captions that reflect the story.
• Optimize content for online readability, SEO, and social media sharing, including keyword suggestions and proper formatting.
• Fact‑check information and verify sources to maintain journalistic integrity.
• Improve story structure, flow, and overall presentation to enhance reader engagement.
• Integrate appropriate images, videos, and multimedia elements with the text.
• Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including copyright and defamation rules.
• Collaborate with reporters and other team members to refine content and meet publication deadlines.
• Mentor junior sub editors and trainees, sharing best practices.
• Work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and nights, as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Hindi Literature, or a related field.
• 1‑3 years of proven experience as a Sub Editor in a reputable Hindi news organization.
• Excellent command of Hindi with strong editorial judgment.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑moving digital environment.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a Content Management System (CMS).
• Understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) principles.
