Senior Specialist Data Governance

About the role

As a Senior Specialist in Data Governance within BASF’s Data & AI Office, you will help implement the company’s Data & AI Governance Framework. The role focuses on executing the data strategy, ensuring data is easy to find, use, and secure while supporting business value, innovation and AI use cases.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate data governance activities across multiple stakeholders and business units.
• Support the execution of BASF‑wide data principles and governance guidelines.
• Define, implement and continuously improve data roles such as Data Owners, Data Product Owners and Data Domain Owners.
• Promote nomination and onboarding of data roles within the business.
• Develop and share processes, templates and best practices for data governance.
• Provide transparency on data governance maturity, risks and improvement areas.
• Facilitate secure data usage through agreements integrated into the Data Catalog.
• Identify, assess and manage data‑related risks, especially for AI use cases.
• Support governance requirements including data classification, ownership, quality, lineage and compliance‑by‑design.
• Act as a connector between business, IT, security and compliance stakeholders.

Required profile

• Degree in business administration, science, IT or a comparable qualification.
• Several years of professional experience in data‑related roles such as data governance, data stewardship or data management.
• Practical experience with governance topics in complex or federated organisations.
• Structured and pragmatic working style in complex environments.
• Initial experience in project or change initiatives is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills.
