Senior Software Engineer - Trusted Data Platform

About the role

Atlassian is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Trusted Data Platform, working remotely or from an Atlassian office. The engineer designs, builds and optimizes high-performance, scalable and resilient backend storage solutions on AWS, including distributed storage systems, APIs and backend services that power mission-critical applications. The role is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Work with principal engineers, architects, SREs and product teams to define technical roadmaps and improve storage efficiency and access patterns.
• Tune performance, data modeling, caching and costs across AWS storage services such as S3, DynamoDB, EBS, EFS, FSx and Glacier.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation, security best practices and monitoring using Terraform, CloudWatch, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
• Troubleshoot production incidents related to data integrity, latency spikes and storage failures, and support high availability and disaster recovery.
• Mentor junior engineers, take part in design reviews and architectural discussions, and promote CI/CD automation, infrastructure as code and observability-driven development.

Required profile

• 8+ years of backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Kotlin or Java for backend development.
• Experience building high-performance, scalable microservices and APIs.
• Experience with AWS storage technologies, including S3, DynamoDB, EBS, EFS, FSx and Glacier, and knowledge of IAM, KMS and data access policies.
• Experience with distributed databases, storage consistency models, caching, sharding, partitioning and load balancing.
• Experience implementing data encryption at rest and in transit, access control, and high availability and disaster recovery.
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK), CI/CD pipelines, and containerized deployments with Docker, Kubernetes (EKS) and serverless options (Lambda, Fargate).
• Strong debugging skills and experience resolving production incidents; good documentation habits.

Required skills

• RESTful APIs, gRPC and event-driven architectures (SNS, SQS, Kinesis or Kafka)
• Cost-efficient storage via tiering, lifecycle policies and data deduplication
• Benchmarking and monitoring tools: CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana
• AWS networking basics (VPC, PrivateLink, Route 53)
