Senior Software Engineer - Rust

About the role

As a Senior Rust Engineer on the Passkeys team, you will build the technology that moves the world beyond passwords, implementing WebAuthn and FIDO2 standards across browser, desktop, and mobile clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Bitwarden's WebAuthn and FIDO2 implementation in Rust, handling credential creation, assertion, and encrypted storage.
• Integrate the passkey implementation with credential provider APIs on browsers, desktops, and mobile platforms.
• Contribute to the shared Rust SDK, including language bindings and FFI used by all Bitwarden clients.
• Shape emerging standards for credential portability, secure import/export, and interoperability testing.
• Participate in code reviews, estimate work, deliver features, and occasionally review community‑submitted bug fixes.

Required profile

• Proven experience developing production‑grade Rust components and libraries.
• Track record of implementing specifications or protocols with rigorous attention to edge cases.
• Strong understanding of applied cryptography, public‑key operations, and key handling.
• Rigorous approach to correctness, testing, and handling failure modes in security‑sensitive software.
