Senior Software Engineer, Quality Engineering

About the role

Plane ships its platform to the cloud, to customer‑owned clusters, and to machines that never touch the internet. You will own the automated test suite that guarantees releases are correct before they leave the pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Own the automated test suite for Plane’s web and desktop clients, from framework design to pull‑request validation and pre‑release checks.
• Build coverage for challenging scenarios such as concurrent editing, offline recovery, and AI‑agent actions where results are ranges rather than single values.
• Decide what gets tested, balancing coverage budget against customer impact.
• Keep the suite fast and trustworthy, eliminating flaky tests that engineers might ignore.
• Test across all deployment targets – Cloud, self‑hosted, and legacy versions – on various browsers and hardware.
• Collaborate daily with engineers and product teams in San Francisco and Hyderabad, and review community pull‑requests for test coverage.
• Triage failures, distinguishing real defects from script or environment issues.

Required profile

• Built an automation framework, making decisions on structure, fixtures, and test data.
• Fluent in Playwright or Cypress and in TypeScript or JavaScript, able to debug failures from traces.
• Turned a flaky suite into a reliable one and can demonstrate the improvements.
• Experience testing APIs (REST, authentication) as well as UI interfaces.
• Ran test suites in CI (GitHub Actions or comparable) and optimized their execution time.
