Senior Software Engineer (Hardware, Networking & Storage)

About the role

NetApp is looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Bangalore who will act as a technical leader and org-level authority for on-premises system architecture. The role sets the multi-year technical vision and strategy across software, firmware, hardware and manufacturing, and applies AI/GenAI to engineering practice. It also owns the deepest technical bets on storage, networking and OS architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the multi-year technical roadmap for on-prem platform architecture, balancing performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability
• Make and defend high-stakes architectural trade-offs and identify emerging technologies worth adopting
• Lead architecture decisions for LLM/GenAI systems such as RAG pipelines, agentic automation and model evaluation frameworks
• Set the strategy and standards for automation across the team
• Mentor senior and staff engineers, run architecture reviews and set guardrails for accuracy, cost and data privacy
• Represent the company's technical position to senior leadership, partners and customers, and author the platform architecture documentation and roadmaps

Required profile

• Typically 10 years of related experience (IC level)
• Protocol-level expertise in networking, including TCP/IP, NFS, SMB, iSCSI and FC
• Deep knowledge of Linux, Unix and FreeBSD OS internals, BIOS/UEFI bootloaders and OS booting
• Expertise in NAS, SAN, NVMe, PCIe, RAID, SSDs and I/O module design
• Hands-on fluency in Python, C and C++
