Senior Designer – Primary

About the role

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Designer – Primary to lead the design and BIM modelling of high‑voltage AIS/GIS substation projects. The role involves delivering detailed drawings and models that meet international standards for utility clients across the Middle East, UK, Australia and the US.

Key responsibilities

• Produce concept, FEED and detailed design drawings for transmission & distribution systems up to 400 kV.
• Develop primary design models including SLDs, cable schedules, interconnection schedules, equipment layouts for outdoor switchyards, indoor substations, trench and tray routing, lighting, earthing and lightning protection.
• Coordinate design issues, resolve drafting conflicts and ensure compliance with client specifications and quality standards.
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, project leads and engineers to clarify requirements.
• Prepare technical documentation such as specifications, bulk material take‑offs and PowerPoint presentations.

Required profile

• Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in designing and BIM modelling of AIS/GIS substations, preferably up to 400 kV.
• Proven ability to work independently and under changing workloads.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clients and international partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Revit, Inventor, NavisWorks and Revizto for substation modelling and clash detection.
• Experience with automation tools such as Dynamo, RF tools, Ideate and Cobie.
• Familiarity with project collaboration platforms like Bentley ProjectWise and BIM 360.
