Senior Automation Engineer - R&D

About the role

Alfa Laval is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced industrial automation solutions. The role focuses on creating modular, scalable software for automation platforms and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement automation software using B&R, Siemens and Rockwell platforms.
• Define and enforce software architecture standards for modular, scalable, and maintainable systems.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, data and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support field testing, commissioning, and provide software maintenance and documentation.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with safety (SIL, ISO 13849), cybersecurity and quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of industrial automation experience, especially with B&R, Siemens and Rockwell platforms.
• Proven track record leading automation software projects from concept to completion.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• PLC programming (structured text) on B&R, Siemens, Rockwell.
• Web‑based HMI development (OPC UA, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript).
• Software architecture, version control (Git, COPIA) and modular design.
• Industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, ProfNet, Ethernet IP, Modbus).
• Cloud‑based automation platforms and DevOps practices.
• C/C++, Python programming.
• Knowledge of IEC 61131‑3 standards, functional safety and cybersecurity (preferred).
