Senior AI/ML Engineer – Lead Complex Systems

About the role

Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean, building the simplest scalable cloud and AI‑native platforms. You will be the senior‑most engineer on the India AI/ML team, owning critical systems, leading multi‑person workstreams, and partnering with architects to set technical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Own complex systems and lead multi‑person workstreams end‑to‑end, making key design decisions for agents, copilots and platform services.
• Design agentic systems with production rigor, including orchestration, tool use, memory, evaluation, observability and cost controls.
• Drive quality, evaluation and observability standards, and lead incident response for non‑deterministic AI outputs.
• Contribute high‑leverage code to the internal AI platform and evolve shared pathways.
• Act as primary technical partner to business owners, turning ambiguous problems into scoped, measurable systems.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews and raise the team’s technical depth and autonomy.

Required profile

• ~6+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of designing and delivering complex production systems.
• Hands‑on expertise in modern AI systems (LLMs, retrieval‑augmented generation, agents, tool use) and LLMOps practices.
• Experience building or operating agentic systems and orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or equivalents.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one production language (Python, Go, TypeScript, Java) and cloud‑native infrastructure (Kubernetes, serverless, APIs, event‑driven patterns).
• Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into well‑bounded technical solutions and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
