Senior AI Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

Five9 is looking for a senior engineer to join its Voice of Customer AI team. You will design and build high‑performance backend services that turn massive volumes of voice and chat data into actionable insights using modern cloud and AI technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop scalable, highly available microservices on GCP using Java Spring and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain data pipelines that ingest, process, and enrich customer conversations.
• Integrate AI and large‑language‑model services (Azure, OpenAI, Google, etc.) into the pipelines and ensure output accuracy and traceability.
• Leverage PaaS components such as message buses, cloud functions, and NoSQL databases to achieve reliability and operability.
• Participate in requirements analysis, feature grooming, and architectural documentation.
• Own production code, including on‑call duties, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

Required skills

• Java with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and REST API design.
• Experience with reactive programming (e.g., RxJava) – desirable.
• Hands‑on AI/LLM integration, prompt design, structured output, and cost/latency management.
• Design and implementation of event‑driven microservices.
• Proficiency with cloud‑hosted relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, BigQuery, DataStore, Redis).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, message buses, and other public‑cloud tooling.
• Automated testing using JUnit and application of design patterns.
• Understanding of security best practices for data and application protection.
