Security Officer – Building Safety & Access Control

About the role

The Security Officer is responsible for safeguarding the building and its premises by controlling access points, patrolling the site, monitoring activities, and proactively preventing theft, unauthorized entry, vandalism, and violence. Working under the Security Director, the role ensures a safe environment for employees, visitors, and assets.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol interior and exterior premises to detect intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
• Answer alarms, investigate disturbances, and promptly notify the Security Director and local emergency services when needed.
• Monitor and authorize entry and exit of employees, visitors, and contractors using on‑site security systems and procedures.
• Write daily activity reports documenting irregularities, equipment damage, theft, or unauthorized persons.
• Interact with visitors, patrons, and staff to maintain order and protect property.
• Operate detection devices to screen individuals and prevent prohibited items from entering restricted areas.
• Inspect, adjust, and test security and life‑safety equipment, and monitor building systems such as HVAC, furnace, or boiler.
• Provide assistance during severe weather events and ensure safety signage is posted.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum two years of prior security experience, preferably in a similar environment.
• Ability to respond to alarms, investigate disturbances, and report emergencies to the Security Director and local authorities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with employees, visitors, and law enforcement.
