Scrub Nurse – Operating Theatre

About the role

The Scrub Nurse works within the operating theatre to ensure a safe, sterile environment for surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the theatre, handling instruments, and supporting the surgical team throughout each operation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the operating theatre by setting up sterile fields, instruments, and supplies according to procedure requirements.
• Assist surgeons by passing instruments, sutures, and other materials promptly and accurately.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection‑control standards at all times.
• Perform surgical counts of instruments, needles, sponges and other items before and after each case.
• Handle and transport specimens for laboratory analysis when needed.
• Coordinate with circulating nurses and OT technicians to ensure availability of consumables and equipment.
• Participate in emergency and trauma surgeries as required.
• Document all relevant information related to the surgical procedure and assist in post‑operative theatre cleaning.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with B.Sc Nursing or GNM qualification and valid council registration.
• 1–3 years of experience in an operating‑room or surgical setting preferred.
• Compassionate, professional, adaptable and able to work under pressure.
