Rolling Stock Mechanical Expert – Metro Projects

About the role

SYSTRA is seeking a senior Mechanical Rolling Stock Expert to lead the mechanical design and integration for metro project bids across India. The role focuses on defining and validating mechanical subsystems of rolling stock, ensuring they meet both Indian and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical requirements for car body structures, bogies, suspension, couplers, HVAC systems, and interior fittings.
• Coordinate with electrical, signaling, and depot teams to guarantee seamless integration of mechanical subsystems.
• Support factory acceptance tests, dynamic trials, and commissioning of mechanical components to verify safety and performance.
• Ensure compliance with UIC, EN, IEC standards and metro rail guidelines.
• Prepare technical inputs, compliance matrices, and subsystem design documentation for bid submissions.
• Review supplier proposals, evaluate technical solutions, and monitor supplier performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 20 years of experience in railway or railway‑related industry.
• At least 5 years of experience in urban rail passenger‑carrying systems.
• Proven track record in rolling stock mechanical design and project delivery.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering expertise in railway rolling stock.
• Design of car bodies, bogies, suspension, couplers, and HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of UIC, EN, and IEC standards applicable to metro rolling stock.
• Experience with factory acceptance testing, dynamic trials, and commissioning.
• Ability to produce compliance matrices and detailed subsystem documentation.
