Principal Software Engineer – Procurement & AI Delivery

About the role

BT Digital is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the transformation of its end‑to‑end Source‑to‑Pay (S2P) and procurement technology estate. This senior position combines deep expertise in SAP procurement solutions with AI‑driven innovation to shape a multi‑year roadmap for a cloud‑native, AI‑enabled procurement platform.

Key responsibilities

• Own and continuously evolve BT’s multi‑year procurement technology strategy aligned with corporate principles.
• Define a clean‑core, AI‑enabled architecture, including legacy system sunset plans.
• Lead migration to AI‑native SAP Ariba on SAP BTP, overseeing pilots, AI agent deployment and adoption.
• Evaluate emerging AI procurement tools and translate them into evidence‑based investment cases.
• Direct the Sirion CLM strategy, ensuring AI capabilities are compliant and effective.
• Drive spend visibility, maverick spend detection and forecasting to support smarter decisions.
• Develop business cases for technology investments and optimise SAP licensing costs.
• Build technical SME capability across procurement platforms through training, certification and mentorship.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in procurement technology transformation.
• Strong track record of delivering AI‑enabled solutions at scale.
• Excellent strategic thinking with ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute multi‑year technology roadmaps.
