Principal Data Scientist

About the role

Atlassian is looking for a Principal Data Scientist to join its Analytics & Data Science team, working remotely from India. You will partner closely with key business leads on some of the most important challenges Atlassian faces, turning data into high-impact visualizations that power leadership decisions. The role is open to candidates in countries where Atlassian has a legal entity.

Key responsibilities

• Work with a diverse set of cross-functional partners on product and business problems, becoming a trusted strategic partner through clear, structured work.
• Use quantitative analysis, experimentation and data presentation to develop business strategies and solve major challenges.
• Develop hypotheses using analytical approaches, methodologies, frameworks and technical methods, then test them.
• Define, understand and test opportunities to improve products and the business, influencing roadmaps through insights and recommendations.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to inform, influence and execute strategy decisions.
• Forecast and monitor key product metrics to measure the success of product efforts and understand trends.
• Shape product development, quantify new opportunities and identify upcoming challenges.
• Communicate insights broadly, including to company leadership teams, using storytelling techniques.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in data science or related fields.
• Proven track record of driving projects or programs with measurable impact on business strategy and performance.
• Experience advising, presenting to and acting as a thought partner to senior executives.
• Ability to craft analysis into well-written content.
• Desirable: 10+ years of experience and an understanding of the SaaS business model and key metrics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SQL and another data manipulation language such as Python or R.
• Storytelling with data and familiarity with at least one visualization tool (e.g. Tableau, R-Shiny, MicroStrategy, SAP Business Objects, Looker).
• Application of statistical concepts such as regression, A/B tests, clustering and probability to business problems.
