Porter/Driver – General Services (Band 2)

About the role

The successful candidate will provide essential portering services across wards, departments and office areas of Borders General Hospital. Occasional driving duties are required to facilitate patient discharges and urgent transport requests. The role is permanent and primarily onsite.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver portering duties within clinical and non‑clinical areas as directed.
• Assist with patient discharge flow and urgent transport using a hospital vehicle.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in all assigned areas.
• Support the Facilities Department in day‑to‑day operations.
• Work scheduled weekend shifts and early‑shift Mondays.
• Comply with NHS Borders Behavioural Framework and health‑and‑safety standards.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in domestic and logistical activities.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and shift patterns.
• Knowledge of the NHS Borders Behavioural Framework.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.

Required skills

• Valid UK driving licence.
• Understanding of patient transport and hospital logistics procedures.
