Patient Care Assistant – Neuroscience Unit

About the role

The Neuroscience Unit at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Assistant to provide direct bedside support to patients under the supervision of the nursing team. This full‑time, day‑shift position involves hands‑on care, assistance with activities of daily living, and execution of specific technical tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, weight, height, and intake‑output data.
• Encourage patients to perform deep‑breathing exercises, use incentive spirometry, and ambulate as directed.
• Assist patients with transfers, positioning, and mobility, including wheelchair use.
• Provide personal care such as bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, and linen changes.
• Manage drainage systems, urine bags, bedpans, and document outputs.
• Collect specimens (urine, stool, sputum) and perform phlebotomy and EKG when trained.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies appropriately.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; CNA certification preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with nurses and other healthcare staff.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow care plans accurately.
• Physical stamina to lift, turn, and assist patients safely.
