MTO Designer – Material Takeoff Specialist

About the role

The MTO Designer is responsible for producing accurate material take‑off reports and drawings for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure material quantities are correctly estimated and documented.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed MTO reports and drawings for EPCI projects.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to estimate material quantities.
• Create precise MTO data sheets that comply with project specifications, industry codes, and standards.
• Use AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems to perform quantity calculations.
• Review project documentation (drawings, specifications, BOM) to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to validate technical documentation and certifications.
• Identify and evaluate alternate materials to optimise cost and performance.
• Maintain project databases and tracking systems for MTO data.
• Provide technical guidance during material selection and participate in design reviews.
• Monitor material consumption trends and propose process improvements.

Required profile

• High School Diploma with a design or drafting focus, or an engineering degree.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in MTO design and material estimation within the EPCI sector.
• Strong knowledge of the EPCI project lifecycle and relevant industry codes and standards.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
