Safety Officer – HSE Specialist for Solar & BESS Projects

About the role

The Safety Officer will lead HSE implementation for solar, battery‑energy‑storage (BESS) and related construction activities. Working on‑site, you will ensure compliance with statutory regulations, ISO standards and client requirements while fostering a zero‑incident culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement site‑specific HSE plans, emergency response plans and safe work procedures.
• Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) for high‑risk activities and prepare JSA/JHA for daily tasks.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, statutory regulations and client HSE requirements.
• Verify Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) compliance and monitor safe execution of civil, electrical, mechanical and battery‑handling works.
• Oversee safety protocols for battery rooms, PCS units, HVAC systems, fire‑suppression equipment and BESS installation.
• Monitor confined‑space entry, work at heights, lifting operations and hot‑work activities.
• Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, refresher training and emergency‑response drills.
• Perform routine site inspections, housekeeping checks, equipment checks and PPE compliance monitoring.
• Carry out internal HSE audits and support external/client audits.
• Investigate incidents, near‑misses and unsafe acts; prepare incident reports, root‑cause analysis and corrective/preventive action plans (CAPA).
• Track CAPA closure and report trends to Project Manager and HSE Head.
• Ensure contractor compliance with HSE standards, method statements, competency certificates and labour safety regulations.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Mandatory safety certification (NEBOSH IGC, IOSH or equivalent Safety Diploma).
• 5–15 years of HSE experience in Solar, BESS, industrial or EPC projects.
