Mechanical Design Engineer – Transformers

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Transformers Business Unit at its Global Engineering Center in Vadodara, India. You will contribute to the design and development of oil‑filled distribution transformers up to 4 MVA, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design active parts, windings, tank and external components for 36 kV class transformers, adhering to IEEE, IEC and IS guidelines.
• Prepare customer documentation, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials and submit them according to project schedules.
• Perform mechanical calculations, thermal, dielectric, short‑circuit and acoustic performance assessments.
• Coordinate design activities across a worldwide factory network and participate in internal design concept reviews.
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations, procedures and safety standards.

Required profile

• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–8 years of experience in mechanical design for oil‑filled distribution transformers.
• Proficiency with CAD or any 3D modelling software; experience with Creo is a plus.
• Good knowledge of IS, IEC, IEEE and Canadian standards related to transformer design.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams across different regions.
