Linux Kernel & Virtualization Manager – Memory, Scheduler, Power

About the role

AMD is seeking a technically strong first‑line manager to lead a team of Linux kernel engineers focused on core CPU and SoC features for EPYC™ processors. The role covers memory management, scheduler, power management, quality assurance, pre‑silicon validation and performance optimization across a globally distributed team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, hire, coach and manage a high‑performing team of Linux kernel engineers.
• Drive feature development for Memory Management, Scheduler and Power Management subsystems.
• Own the QA strategy to ensure code is robust, well‑tested and upstream‑ready.
• Conduct pre‑silicon validation, performance tuning and resolve internal and customer debug issues.
• Collaborate with remote engineering groups in India, the U.S. and Europe and represent the team’s priorities organization‑wide.

Required profile

• Experienced kernel engineering leader with strong analysis and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven technical credibility in Linux kernel development combined with people‑leadership skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to work in a matrix‑managed, fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of Linux kernel development, especially Memory Management, Scheduler and Power Management.
• Experience defining and executing QA practices for kernel or systems software (test development, CI, performance testing).
• Pre‑silicon validation and debugging of new hardware.
• Performance optimization and benchmark analysis.
• Proficient C programming for OS kernels; Rust experience a plus.
• Open‑source contribution workflow (patch submission, mailing lists).
• Understanding of x86‑64 architecture and related data structures.
• Familiarity with KVM/QEMU virtualization extensions.
• GNU toolchain, Git, and low‑level debug tools, emulators or simulators.
